Internet Explorer icon doesn't work but I can access internet....Help!

So, I was having some problems with WIndows Media Player and I looked through some guides via the net and I did some things and the problem was solved. However, now, the Internet Explorer icon doesn't open the Internet! Instead, it just opens the Internet-options window. However, I can still reach the internet when I go to MSN messenger and check my mail. Can anyone help me with this??? It doesn't start in the Start-Menu either!

Hi! I'm not quite sure what you mean here. I go here C:\Program\Internet Explorer but I don't see a IEXPLORE.exe file or map...very weird.

Hi. I did what you said and it said something like "controlling that the current version is used" etc etc and when it was done, nothing happens! Very weird. Anyone else have any ideas?

Okay, I see a file that is called "iedw.exe, Crash Detection". Is that the one? What should I do with it? Cause nothing happens when I press it...

Robin_89,

If there is no iexplore.exe file in the Internet Explorer folder see if System File Checker can replace it. Go to Start|Run, enter sfc /scannow and click OK. (There is a space after sfc.) You may be prompted to insert your Windows XP CD.

Robin_89,

Try this. Go to Start|Control Panel|Add or Remove Programs|Add/Remove Windows components. See if Internet Explorer is unchecked on the window that opens. If so, check it and OK out. If IE is "uninstalled" iexplore.exe becomes a hidden file and if you don't have Windows Explorer set to display hidden files and folders you would not see it in the Internet Explorer folder.
