internet explorer links open blank window on first click

I am using Internet Explorer 6.  If I click on any link without having a browser window already open it will automatically launch IE but only a blank window will come up.  If a browser window is already open the links will work fine.  Is there anyway to fix this?

If you are using IE how can you see link to click if it doesn't already show in IE Browser window. ?

Any link in an email or program that will automatically open the browser.  IE works just fine for normal browsing, but without having IE open, any program or link that needs to open the browser to view a web page will only open a blank page.

Any chance setting the home page to "Blank" could cause the initial IE page to come up blank ??

You could try Doug Knox fix for File  URL;
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
----------------
Or check "My Computer" > Tools > Folders Options > File Types & scroll to  URL , click Advanced , select Open , Edit & check  "Use DDE" is ticked.

Thanks for the advice.  Between your post and the previous post regarding file tyes it made me think.  There was a file type listed with no extension that said URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol.  When I went into that one it had -nohome after the iexplore.exe file.  When I took the -nohome out it works fine now.  Thanks to both of you for your help!

I tried the Doug Knox file and that didn't work, and the Use DDE was already checked.  Thanks for your help though!
