INTERNET EXPLORER NOT WORKING????

have a dimension 8250 with XP Pro SP1 & IE ver. 6.0

when click on IE icon, error message, IE has encountered a problem and needs to close

Tried system restore first but no luck.Then with reinstallation cd removed IE, rebooted & reloaded IE but same error message.Did not want to do a fresh install in case i lose my data

have Kazaa lite on computer but no spyware software. Any suggestions would be helpful thanks

Hi bharatrdesai.  You probably have a malware/spyware problem.  I suggest that you consult this informative post by ChrisRLG and take his advice.

bharatrdesai,

If you removed and reinstalled IE through Add/Remove Programs you didn't reinstall it. Add/Remove only removes the reference to it on your system. To reinstall it (if you used Add/Remove before) use the procedure given here.

I wiil try your suggestions thru the link provided when i get home tonight.       Will respond afterwards.i did not use the Add/Remove feature to remove IE, but with the reinstallation cd,used the 'add windows components' feature to remove IE and reinstall.thanks again

thanks for your help.loaded Ad-aware first,detected ALEXA virus,which had hijacked the IE.Quarantined the virus,rebooted, IE worked.Next loaded Spybot,which detected the same virus.removed virus completely, rebooted and IE still working

Now that you have rid yourself of the spyware. You may want to switch to a more Spyware/Hijack/Virus resistant browser such as Mozilla or Mozilla Firebird. Mozilla also has many options Explorer does not including pop-up blocker, And tabbed browsing are just a few I use. http://www.mozilla.org/
