Internet Explorer will not open
I have recently had a bout with spamware viruses. After dealing with this my Internet Explorer will not run: when I click the icon or run through "Start" I initially get an hourglass but then nothing else happens. I can connect to the internet though my Verizon Yahoo browser, hence this message, but I feel I must still have some infection somewhere keeping me from using Explorer. I ran HijackThis and am attaching the ouput below. Can someone please help?

"After dealing with this my Internet Explorer will not run"
What did you do to deal with that? Perhaps you had an incomplete removal.
You are running Avast. What components of McAfee Security are you using?
Try running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
Please download to your desktop Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
- If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
- Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
- The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
- When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
- The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy&Paste the entire report into a New Message on the HijackThis Board. Also include a fresh HijackThis log. Instructions for downloading HijackThis are at the top of that forum.
Extra Note:1. Just click the New Message button in the HijackThis forum here: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack
to start your own thread requesting assistance for a follow-up check to be sure the malware is gone.
2. In the Message Body window that opens, simply Right-Click and select Paste.
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Hi Bugbatter,
Thanks for the reply. I already have installed Malwarebytes' and used it to disinfect my machine to this point. As a matter of fact I ran this program then the avast scan before my first message. Malwarebytes' did not find anything then but I just re-ran and still found nothing: see attached below. The avast scan did find 9 items and I quarantined them but I still cannot start Explorer. The names of those viruses that avast found are Win32:Rootkit-gen[Rtk] files 14488.exe, A0105688.exe, A0105819.exe, A0105848.exe and A0105865.exe, and 4 instances of Other:Malware-gen HiPointInstallShieldRT.class.

The online scanner is on the bottom right of the page.
Direct link: http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml
Follow the directions on the F-Secure page for proper Installation.
* You may receive an alert on the address bar at this point to install the ActiveX control.
* Click on that alert and then click " Install ActiveX component".
* Read the license agreement and click " Accept".
* Click " Custom Scan" and be sure the following are checked:
* When the scan completes, click the " I want to decide item by item" button.
* For each item found, Select " Disinfect" and click " Next".
See if that finds anything.

Hi Bugbatter,
I downloaded the scanner and ran it. It did find a fair amount of stuff, 41 different items, but I still could not open Explorer. I restarted the machine and still I cannot open Explorer. Is it possible that the viruses and my ability to open Explorer are two different things: maybe I am missing some component of Explorer? I did download and install Explorer again but still not luck. One thing I have found out through all of this is that my computer has a lot of bugs in it.

That is possible, but if you are having lots of "bugs" perhaps a reformat/reinstall is in order so you can start fresh.
