invalid_work_queue_item

Installing Windows XP Pro on a Dell Latitude D505 laptop & upgraded BIOS to A06.  When install completes and reboots I keep getting the blue screen of death with a message of INVALID_WORK_QUEUE_ITEM.  Any assistance would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I have a feeling that there may be more to the message you're getting than what was posted.  Are you also seeing something along the line of "0x00000000," or any other sort of characters/error details?  If so, then you need to include them in their entirety, as they'll have some bearing on where the problem is.

One thing to consider right off the bat is that if you have the system in a dock or port replicator, it needs to be out of them.  It'd probably be a good idea to remove any PCMCIA cards during the installation of XP, too.

I have disabled Bluetooth in the BIOS.

If you have any Bluetooth stuff on there, I'm betting on that as the culprit.

The STOP code is 0x00000096 (0x81B21290,0x80548ABC,0x80548A80,0x80571358).  I do not have any PC cards inserted and I was not using a port replicator or docking station.  Any other suggestions?

And...?

This was before the error message(s) or after?  As you can see from the article, it's more than likely a driver issue.  If Bluetooth is ruled out, then you're going to have to start looking elsewhere.  Since we're not there to see what's going on, the solution is going to start with you.

Thank you for all of your help.  I was able to boot the laptop in safe mode and install XP service pack 1a.  The laptop now boots up without a problem.
