Is a software problem killing my network? Please help!

I have a 9343 xps 13, and until about two weeks ago it's been smooth sailing. Now however, I think it may be causing me a lot of heartache. So here's what's happening,

I have century link dsl and a zyxel c1100z modem. I've had endless issues the last two weeks with internet connectivity coming and going. CenturyLink tech support says the lines are stable on their side and have even sent a tech out, who replaced some lines but said they shouldn't have cause any outages. When I open my routers ip address page, it says that the router is connected to dsl and has great up and down speeds. Here's where it gets interesting, I've started experimenting with my laptop and I've discovered that if my wifi is on  the network crashes. As soon as I turn it off, the network comes back up and functions properly.  I've had the same xps and router for two years, so I imagine it has to be a software issue? Please  any help as to a solution would be greatly appreciated!

Are you using Wi-Fi connection or a wired connection?  It isn't clear in your post.  But it would appear to be more a router problem than anything.  I've went through many routers over the years, "name brand" and most have lasted about two years and start giving problems.  Fortunately my main PC is a wired connection so if I'm having problems for testing I can bypass my router and connect directly to the modem.  Many ISP modems are both wired and Wi-Fi capable.  If your ISP modem is both, give it a try instead of the router and see what happens.

Thank you for your reply! My routers firmware is the most up to date version available.

Thank you for your reply! For my XPS it is a wireless connection. My wife has a laptop that I can connect via Lan as well. I also thought the router was the issue, so I replaced it, but had the same problem. Another experiment I've tried is to have my wife's laptop connected via Lan and cycle my XPSs wireless connection. When I only had my wife's laptop connected via Lan everything worked great. I cycled on my XPS and the network crashed (the router still shows good connection but I can't access web pages), as soon as I turned the xpss wifi off, I had great connections again.

Do you have any wireless devices which work with your wireless network?

Is the one DSL modem your wireless or do you have an additional wireless router?

What wireless adapter do you have on the laptop?  Know which one might help find consistent problems in such a device.

Thank you for the reply! I do have other devices that are working perfectly on the network. The zyxel c1100 is both a modem and router and my xps13 has the Broadcom adapter. I know that adapter can be troublesome in some devices

I can't come up with anything to suggest, except to try using a separate wireless router rather than the wireless router built into the Modem.  That is what I'm doing, my ISP (Cable) supplied modem also has Wi-Fi but I have my own Wi-Fi router (that works better and has better security).
