Issue with sound with Precision M70 when docked into PR01X

This is a really simple problem, but it's super annoying for me. With both Vista Beta 2 and RC1, when I dock the laptop I can't get either the headphone port on the dock, nor the one on the laptop itself to work. With headphones plugged in, it mutes the sound from the speakers like normal, but nothing comes from the headphones. If I unplug the headphones, sound comes from the built-in speakers just fine.

When undocked, the headphone port on the laptop works fine (I think, I'm pretty sure I tried this at some point).

Any suggestions? Other than this, RC1 is running flawlessly on my M70!

Hi there,

Does RC1 auto detect & natively support ALL the hardware in the M70 without resorting to Dell/Intel chipset drivers?

What video driver + chipset driver + audio driver + smartcard driver + any QuickSet application did you end up using?

Thx.

Yes, Vista correctly installs all hardware for the M70. The sound issue that I posted about above has been resolved with the new driver that is included with Vista RTM. Zero issues now with Vista on the M70, it runs quite well!

Thanks for that info, I took the plunge & installed Vista RTM.
However, I notice almost constant fan usage while logged in.
Any clues?

Good point, I'll check that out! Otherwise, how are you enjoying Vista RTM?

I've noticed that on a couple older M70's. The newer ones don't do it. Not sure what the difference is. Running latest bios on all. Perhaps they changed the heatsink/fan mid-model and the increased CPU usage with Vista is causing it to run more often?

Actually I'm having a bit of trouble with Vista RTM. 6 times out of 10 when I do a ctrl-alt-del to lock my screen I get a blue screen. Did NOT have this issue in RC2 or below. The dump it provides points to the video driver as the culprit, so it appears it's Nvidia's fault on this one. This, and internet explorer 7 thinks it crashed every time I close it, even though it didn't. Pretty minor stuff really. The positives of Vista far outweigh the negatives for me at this point. I can't wait until the third party vendors really get their drivers working right.
