JAVA applet failed to load - error

Hi there. This is my first post here. So I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this. Please advise if not. Thanks.

I use a website (www.adslguide.org.uk) to test my internet speed - it is with Demon 2Mb. The test page normally loads (a java applet) a little program which checks the speed. Up until recently this has always worked. Now it doesn't - I get a 'java applet failed to load' message.

I have checked search pages, other forums (including the one on sun's website - java.com) for advice on what to do - and have tried many suggestions but cannot fix the problem. I have tried other sites with java programs and none of them work. I've racked my brains to try and remember if I installed anything which may have altered settings but cannot remember! I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling - no joy! I've checked my setting via tools, internet options, security (and advanced) to see if everything is enabled - and it is!

I've also tried different browsers from my IE6sp2 such as Opera and Firefox - JAVA doesn't work on these either.

It's only now I'm without java that I realise how much I must have utilised it before.

I haven't a clue how to get it back. Can anyone help please.

I use a Dell Dimension 5000, Pentium 4 3GHz, 1Gb Ram, 160 Gb HD, Windows XPsp2 with IE 6sp2

Many thanks in anticipation.

p.s. I'm no expert when it comes to computers

Hi,

Have you installed the newest version of the Java Platform from Sun ?

Or are you still using the microsoft VM that comes with XP ?

I'm having the same problem with both Flash and Java since Window's Update KB912812. I've tried every fix Google came up with to no avail. Anyone know of a fix that actually works and will restore functionality to these?
