Well, I have been battling the "Either you do not have Javascript enabled in your browser or some security software is blocking it" error screens for nearly a year!  Didn't prevent surfing, just an annoyance on one site I go to.  JUST TODAY I finally found out what the problem was.  I knew SpywareBlaster, SpywareDoctor and Avast AV weren't blocking it.  I knew, after repeated help forum postings that I had all Internet Explorer Internet Options settings enabled right.  My ISP assured me they were not blocking via their customized IE browser software.  I had uninstalled and reinstalled clean copies of Java probably as many as 8-10 times in the last year with no success.  I run McAfee's firewall and two Java files had rules to allow "Full Access" to the internet, so I just couldn't figure it out!  Well, I know software sets itself up by default the correct way, in most cases, so I deleted all the McAfee FW permission rules pertaining to Java!  Clean slate!  Then, I once again uninstalled Java via Add/Remove Programs.  Then I downloaded a clean copy of Java 1.5.0.08.  Problem gone!!!!!!!  The one and only rule in the firewall for Java now, autosetup by the installation, allows this file to access the internet:  jre-1_5_0_08-windows-i586-p-iftw[1].exe.   Don't remember what the two were on the old list I deleted, but the were definiitely not files with this long of a name!  So on one occasion in the last year, Java did NOT install itself correctly.  I just couldn't see easily that the crucial file(s) were still blocked at the FW level.

Be sure this file has access to the internet through your firewall.

Edit:  javaw.exe also needs access to the internet in your firewall.

Well, at one point along the way I also had two versions installed.  But removing the older one didn't resolve it for me.  In my case, the firewall was also to blame.  Is that what they mean by a "comedy of errors"?  Glad I could help.

Thanks for your help.............................I too have McAfee so I did as you suggested.

I also found that that I had two different versions of Java loaded so I deleted both and reinstalled 5.0 ver.6

Thanks again,

Richard  (also from Texas)
