Java disbled Dimension 5100

Hi

When accessing certain web pages like ADVFN monitor page , Java disabled appeared. Went to the Java web site to download and solve the problem(hopfully) but,  when downloading their product     "Error 1606. Could not access network location htt//jdl.sun.com/webapps/download/Get file/1.5.0_0 4.bo5/windows-i586//ja 150000.cab".  appeared and wouldn`t let me finish the dowload.   Anybody got an answer to this problem. I have Windows XP pro version.

are you using internet explorer?

try restoring all of the default settings in IE/tools/options/, "security", "privacy", and "advanced"..

if that doesn't resolve the problem, if you are using zone alarm, you could try disabling zone alarm, and using the windows firewall instead, and see if that resolves the problem..

another option is doing a "repair install" of windows xpsp2, if you think that there is a problem with internet explorer..

Hi

Yes I`am using Internet Explorer 6. I have restored my defaults, still have the problem. I don`t have Zone Alarm Installed.

I haven`t tried repairing Internet Explorer yet. Thanks for the help

is this just at one particular website where you get the message "java disabled"? if you have java installed, there are websites for testing java, just do a google for "java test"..

you could try this.. it is a program that will remove everything from "restricted sites" (as well as everything from other zones, like trusted sites).. i have used it before..

to download this file, rightclick on the link posted below, and select "save target as", to save the file.. to execute the file, rightclick, and select "install".. here is the link:

and here is the original webpage for downloading the "deldomains.inf" file, so you can check it out.. you can opt to download the "deldomains.inf" file from the webpage.. look where it says "to remove all the sites listed in the restricted zone"..

Hi

Thanks for the reply.  I have tested on Google whether Java applets are functioning properly and they are not.  I tried to do an installation again and it stops on the last downloading function and that's usually when the error 1606  usually appears.

In my Java web start it states "empty".

I really don't know what to do now, any more suggestions?

best regards

Hi redwolfe_98

To actually express what I feel at the moment can only be measured in relief.  And I have stopped banging my head against the wall.  The wall started to complain.

I want to thank you very much for pointing me in the right directions.  I don't know how I did it, but eventually I got over the problems.  I can only describe this as a journey down which I don't want to travel ever again.  But I know at some point I will and I am glad that people like you are about that are willing to give information and give answers to peoples problems.

I thank you very much for your help.

best regards
