JAVA RUNTIME SE
I have a Dell Inspiron B130 and while doing a clean up, noticed that I have 4 versions and or updates(not sure if I should call it that) and each takes up over a 100MB. Do I need ALL of it? And if I was to remove one or more, how does one knows which to keep?
I would appreciate any input on this matter.
- Using Windows XP
Java installed:
1)J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update - 119MB
2) Java 2 Runtime Environment SE vl.1.4.2_03 - 136MB
3) Java(TM) 6 update 2 - 111MB
4)Java(TM)SE Runtime Environment Update 1 - 134MB
*Running out space with so many "Runtime":smileyhappy:

which can be downloaded from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
(4th item on the page).
If you have java on your system, it's important to keep it up to date, as older versions (especially 1.4.2_03) are alleged to have security "holes" in them. In other words, not only are older versions not required, they in fact represent a security risk.

Update4 has been out for a while now, but java.com is still only pushing v3 with their auto-install utility/page.
On a related note, should I ditch all the old NET frameworks? ;p

If you have trouble deciding that...usually you can delete them all and reinstall it and by default it will have all the updates.
