Java script on webpage closes browser

I have a new Inspiron 8600 running Windows XP (fully updated daily) and the Sun Java VM.  When I load certain webpages with java scripts (http://www.savannahbnb.com or the Sun java test page - http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.jsp, e.g.) the browser shuts down as soon as the javascipt starts.  I use the SBC Yahoo browser as well as IE6 (also fully updated and reinstalled) but it happens with both.  I've tried switching back and forth between the Windows java VM and the Sun system but this hasn't worked.  I run a desktop machine that has both browsers and this isn't a problem there either so it's not simply a matter of the SBC Yahoo browser causing problems.  The only way I can load these types of pages is to turn off java scipting completely.

Can you help me?

Its possible that having the two Versions of Java running at the same time is causing the conflict.  Kip

You can test which version of JAVA you have enabled by using this site
http://javatester.org/version.html

If you don't have JAVA enabled it wont connect if you do it will dispaly the version in pink box.

Hah!
That page confirmed that I'm running the Sun java machine (1.4.2) even though I have it unchecked in Internet options/advanced and THEN CRASHED MY BROWSER!

I don't have the option of checking the MS java machine boxes because they don't appear in the advanced tab.  I just can't figure this out...

If you did not install the Ms Jvm, its not there, its not installed by default any longer.  Try reinstalling the Sun version again.  Kip

here is a link where you can download ms virtual machine: http://www.wildtangent.com/install/jvm/msjavx86_3805.exe . you can adjust your settings for java by going to "add/remove" and then, in the left column, click "set program access".. expand the list there and check ms virtual machine (if you have it installed), and then apply the change.. if you install ms virtual machine, you should update the program at windows updates after you install it..

Don't know how you could do the above without Microsoft VM JAVA installed.
If installed the IE , Advanced tab will show VM JAVA below the SUN JAVA & removing the tick from SUN with VM  "JIT compiler....."  ticked will enable VM JAVA when Browser is close & re-opened.

To check Microsoft VM JAVA is installed you can also use Command Prompt >
& type    jview

Edit not working for me so;

Note To Disable IE JAVA you must remove ticks from SUN & VM , close then re-open IE Browser.
To use SUN just tick SUN & leave VM ticked then close & re-open IE Browser.

Thanks for all your help.  Turns out it was a conflict between SBC Yahoo!'s parental control program and the browser.  I disabled the Parental Controls and the problem went away.
