You may safely go ahead with the java update, including it's activeX control.  Actually java 6.0 is now available, but the latest 5.0 version is 1.5.0 update 10.  The information bar pops up due to how your web zone security settings are configured.  One more thing...when updating java to newer versions, go back and uninstall older versions from control panel add/remove programs.

To add to the above, it is best to uninstall existing Java version through control panel add/remove before installing the new one. The install of the new ne does not overwrite the previous one, so both remai installed, which may lead to confusion as to which one is actually being used.

At Last it is DONE/installed the  java 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_10-b03)
Thanks to all for your help. What worked for me was I went to www.java.com  and selected manual download and followed the prompts. Now it
is done .
Wonder if I should uninstall the older Java now from Control/remove etc etc?

Thanks again for the interest and help :-)
