Rats! I'm running out of ideas.

Have you downloaded Microsoft VM? Just on the possibility that the two Java applications you have installed are conflicting with one another (which is what I was trying to research when I found that listing of enabling steps). Try downloading and installing Microsoft's VM (just get the v3805 for now, it will indicate whether the Sun apps are a problem) and uncheck the entry to use the Sun virtual machine on the Advanced tab of Internet Options. See if you are then able to view Java-enabled sites.

Microsoft's VM and Sun's JRE coexist nicely on the same computer (I have both on mine).

John_Doe,

In Add/Remove programs is there a listing for "Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_01" and if so what size is shown for it?

ok i downloaded microsoft VM v3085 and disabled the Sun virtual machine on the advanced tab of the interent options, i restarted the computer and when i went to a java-enabled site i got nothing no download or anything it was just completely blank.

then i tried checking the entry for Sun virtual machine on the advanced tab again and this time it worked! but now i'm guessing my MS VM isn't working now.. oh well... pretty weird if you ask me.. i also tried updating to v3010 but got the same results...

then... i just went to the windows update website to see if there were any updates and there was one critical update for MS VM v3010! but i already have it installed.. i checked the version in 'jview' in cmd... is windows not recognizing VM or something? do i install it again?

just to make sure do you any other java-enabled sites (with applets etc.)so that i can make sure everything is working properly?

thanks!

John_Doe,

Are you now able to view Java sites (with whichever virtual machine you have selected)?

yes, i am able to view them with the Sun java but not with MS VM. Is one better than the other? If, so which is better? and why is that happening?

thanks again!

John_Doe,

Yes, i am able to view them with the Sun java but not with MS VM. Is one better than the other? If, so which is better? and why is that happening?   The two duplicate each other's functions so either one will provide the Java support that you need. As to why it is happening, I have absolutely no idea. If you are able to view applets I'd consider the problem resolved and let the original cause simply be a mystery. Microsoft will be making no further updates to their Virtual Machine so any updates will be to the Sun product (which is working).

Ok, I went to several java sites this week and all of a sudden I started getting theseerror messages that say something like "runtime error.... do you wish to debug?... unterminated string constent" for example I went to your site Denny, http://www.djdenham.com/ and I got that message. I also went to several other java sites and kept getting the same message. The thing is the error message pop's up for about less than a second and then disappears and the java applets start working.

How can I prevent these messages from showing? They are really annoying and well as the sound it makes.

Thanks!

I am experiencing this exact problem.  It appears as though the Sun jre's have hijacked my machine!  I can't get the msjvm to run at all.  Tried reinstalling several times as described here.  Even though the sun jre is un-checked in internet options, the Sun jre still runs with my own applet which does not specify a particular jre by classid.  When I try "jview" from a cmd prompt I get "ERROR: Could not locate Java Virtual Machine : Class not registered".

How can I get the msjvm properly installed?  Some registry key must think that the msjvm is not installed when in fact it is.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
