Java Web Start Problems.

I am in desperate need of help with Java Web Start. Every time I go to a URL that invokes Java, its crashed the browser, thats IE or Netscape. I have called the tech support desk more times than I can count. I have completely reloaded my Dimension to the factory load and still Java crashes my browser. Now when I call Dell tech support I am told to call SUN Micro. because Dell does not support Java Web Start, even though they installed it on my computer when I bought it. I have called SUN Micro and they said that they do not support any Windows apps.

Is anyone else having this problem.......please drop me a note.

Thanks-

scottg62,

Java Web Start is included in Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition, which you can download from here. I'm surprised when you say that Dell installed that, as it is not a standard part of any Dell software package I am familiar with.

If you are having difficulty with Java (not specifically Java Web Start) you might try installing either Microsoft Virtual Machine (download here) or Sun's Java Runtime Environment (download here).

Do you receive any error message when you visit a Java site or merely experience a crash?

Denny -

Thanks for your response but I have already done the activites you suggested and still get the same result.

I didn't load Java Web Start on this machine initially. I have removed it and reinstalled with Dell Support on the line and from the same location that you suggested. Its, Java 2 Runtime Environment v1.4.2_02.

Thanks-

P.S.  I do get an error message, its a bit long; kind of looks like a virtual memory issue (?).

Searching Google for YPCLSP, I found a discussion about this problem.

Here is the reply in that discussion to a problem that looks very similar to yours:

YPCLSP.dll has to do with the Yahoo! parental controls. If you do not use these settings delete them from your add/remove programs. If you do use these settings first add/remove them and then install the newest version from ypc.yahoo.com.
This should solve it for ya.

You are a genius!!!!!

Thats it, I removed the parental controls, restarted the problem was gone. I installed the latest version from Yahoo! and the problem returned so I have uninstalled it again. I have dsl service from SBC/Yahoo!, so I will contact them to find out if there is some magical config issue.

Thanks very much for your help.......

Were you able to get any answer from SBC?  I have the same issue, but need to utilize the Parental Control.

Thanks!
