Just ordered freedos system, installing Windows XP Pro

Hello, I just ordered a 531s AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4400+ with no operating system, it comes with freedos, I have Windows XP Pro SP1 retail, will it install on this system?

Yeah it should work, just remember to have the drivers, with you because since the Hardware is newer than the CD, you'll probably have lots of drivers to install.

Very true what Cywhy said, I haven't seen XP drivers for that system yet, only vista drivers...

I'm a novice here, so when I get the PC, I pop in the XP CD, where do I get drivers? how do I install drivers? The system does not come with a floppy drive, I'm starting to worry about this purchase, If I can't get XP to install will Dell accept a return? This is the first time I purchased from Dell.

Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance.

If you are within 21 days, you can get all the money back... If you want a Dell system with XP I've checked and only the XPS 410 and the XPS710 (a very expenssive, but nice system) offers XP
to check for drivers just go to support.dell.com, go to the drivers section, type your Service TAG and you'll get the options for the drivers, but if you look for Windows XP there are not main drivers for that system, no audio, no video, just network and some application you will not find very usefull. Now, if you have an expansion video and sound card, the history could be diferent.

I suggest using XP sp2 instead of sp1.

Many here are using Vista drivers for XP and are getting good results.

You do not need a floppy drive, a small change in the bios remedy's this. There are no Dell doc's on this model currently, but there should be a Sata operation section in the bios, change it to ATA mode, XP should install without the need for a floppy drive and drivers.

Installing the drivers is a simple as executing the file (double click). Download them on another PC and burn to CD, after XP is installed, insert the CD and install them on the 531s.
