kernal_stack_inpage_error

I have a Dell Dimension 4700, with WIndows XP Pro.  I've been getting the blue screen showing with the kernal_stack_inpage_error, 0x00000077.   Have to turn off/on the power in order to reboot.

Does anyone know what can be causing this problem (has started to occur on a regular basis)??  What can be done to fix the problem??

Thanks in advance!

Same problem.  I have a Dell Dimesion 8400, XP Pro MCE 2005.  Same blue screen error.  Any help?

A search of the Dell knowledgebase came up empty.

Thanks.

Did you guys make any changes to the system (updates, new software, removed stuff, new hardware) right before the problem first started?

Also, have you already tried the suggestions from this MS KBA?

Windows updates install automatically on my pc.

This am I went to F12 diags.  Ran the blue screen tests.  Had 3 bad blocks on SATA drive with error msg: Block Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.

Checkdisk ran on startup automatically.

Windows is running.

Backed up all My Docs to my external HD just in case.

Yeah, thats a good plan.  It is possible those are one-off block failures and the drive will continue to work fine.  On the other hand, it could be a sign that the End is Near.  I would recommend another test in a week or so to see if it finds more bad blocks.  If it does, I'd recommend contacting tech support about a replacement (assuming you are in warranty).  You don't want to run the tests too often, however, as it just runs down the life of the drive (not a lot, but it adds up).

My system is out of warranty.  I can't find a replacement drive on the support site.  A few external options.

Assuming I can find a replacement drive, can I use the DVD that came with the system titled: "Operating System, Already Installed On Your Computer, Reinstallation DVD, MS Windows XP Media Center version 2005 with Update Rollup 2" to put XP on the new drive?

Thanks for the help Larry.  I really appreciate it.

Yes, that DVD should work for reinstalling Windows.  You might want to download the latest version of all your drivers before that if you can, however, as they more than likely be newer than whats on the Resource CD it shipped with.

The Dim uses standard IDE hard drives, so you should be able to pick one up anywhere you can get computer parts.  By default, Dell configures the drive for Cable Select, so if you have another IDE device on the same ribbon cable, make sure you set the new drive appropriates to avoid confusing the BIOS. ;)

[sorry for the delay in replying.  i've been out of the office the last two weeks, and i'm getting caught up]
