I can't really help you but it could be a failed hard drive or memory; did they they have you run diagnostics on these ? Is your battery fully charged ? Might be a good time to update your BIOS and give it another try.

i received the same message on my dimension 8200, xp system.  in the past, it only happened about once a month.  more recently, several times a day.  i called dell and was informed that i needed a new hard drive.  however, i've put the hard drive through numerous tests, including dell's and it always passes.  the strange part is that you never know when it will be a short or long process to restart the computer.  of late, after it crashes and i receive the "kernel_data_inpage_error, i must hold the power button on for 10 seconds to reboot the computer.  then, i receive the following message"  "a disk read error occured.  press ctrl+alt+delete to restart".  when doing such, it just brings me back to the same "a disk read error occured . . ."  i then usually give up and try again the next day . . . and, thus far, the computer starts up without a problem . . . only to crash again, with the "kernel_data . . ." message and then a "dump of physical memory".

very strange . . . i've checked the seating of the four 128 memory sticks and replaced the battery, all to no avail.

does anyone have any suggestions?  help, please.
