Latitude E6510: Windows 10 works, but not CD/PC card/SD card reader
Microsoft assured me that my Windows 7 laptop (Latitude E6510) was ready to upgrade to Windows 10. In a way, it was... but only after I upgraded did I see Dell's caution that this model was not verified to work 100% with Windows 10.
Almost everything works (sound didn't work initially, but I found a fix online that helped), but clearly new drivers are required which recognize and drive the PC Card reader, the SD card reader, and even the CD/DVD drive. The CD drive won't even open when pressed, nor is it recognized as a drive by Windows 10.
Yes, these inputs can all be accessed via external USB drives, but please provide new drivers, Dell. For those with this model on the fence about upgrading, determine how much you need these built-in readers/drive!

I've just upgraded my Latitude E6510 to windows 10. Most of the drivers refuse to run as they cant recognise W10 OS. I suggest anyone thinking of the upgrade not to at this stage. The Dell Driver downloads area warns of this.
Right now I have a non working keyboard, mouse pad, backlight. My biggest concern is the Nvidea graphics drivers wont install so I have fuzzy text with some of my programs (not all).
I am surprised MS allowed me to download W10?? I'm going to waste another day trying to fix this up or I'm going to have to reinstall W7. Very unproductive-not happy

For anyone that is stuck getting windows 10 on a latitude E6510, Ive had some luck manually upgrading the drivers - go windows key + "x" button go to each device separately, right click and "update driver software"
Has got the basics going.

I have all the drivers working on my e6510 on windows 10
Nvidia has drivers for the graphics
http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN285146/en
I used that to get most of my drivers

Interestingly, a reboot immediately following any sort of Microsoft update usually renders my CD/DVD drive operable. The same occurs if I use some registry workarounds I've found on-line that seem to help others. The drive will be visible to Windows 10 for that single boot cycle. Once I reboot again, the drive is again invisible and inaccessible.
There is something that is getting reset that shouldn't be, but I can't figure it out. In short, for me any CD/DVD fix works only for one reboot cycle.
I can use the SD card reader as long as I go to Device Manager and enable the Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 3B46. Once again, for some reason the default for this setting is disabled. Every boot. This fix is immediate for that session (reboot resets it to disabled).
So, despite things improving overall on the Windows 10 front on the E6510, it's still not all roses for me.

I had a similar issue with my DVD writer in a different system.
At first the DVD writer was recognized and it could read DVD's, but not burn them.
I found solutions on the internet, but after applying them, the DVD writer wasn't recognized at all anymore.
Anyway, try to search Google for solutions for a missing DVD drive in Windows 10 and make sure to insert a DVD in the DVD drive after applying a solution and before Windows boots again.
This fixed the issue for me. Not a guarantee it will work for you, but maybe it will.
