License Activation Error 0x80090019
We had a laptop running XPpro that may have been hit by the Sasser worm. It refused to boot.
After mucking around with it - ie; installing the sasser patches while in SAFE MODE - I've
been able to get it to boot. However, when you try to log in as Administrator, you get an
error message saying that the license check failed;
"WINDOWS PRODUCT ACTIVATION - A problem is preventing windows from
accurately checking the license for the computer - ERROR
CODE 0x80090019."
I've been unable to find a good match in the MS knowledge base site or on the net.
One bit of advice was to run "regsvr32 licdll.dll" -- This fails with the 0x80090019
error. (Removing the licdll.dll file simply causes the login to fail with a null
error message.)
Other advice was to run regsvr32 against rsaenh.dll and rsabase.dll. Rsaenh.dll returns
an "OK", but rsabase.dll does not exist.
Since I can only run in SAFE MODE, my options are very limited. Expecially as SAFE MODE
does NOT present me with a START menu....
I would hate to have to do a raw OS install.
Sakshale.

Of course this would remove the your latest patches.
But you use Microsoft site http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp
I leave the XP Firewall running in case I have to do a Repair & forget to have the Firewall activated.
