before restoring (erasing your hard disk), try running dell diagnostics first (test all devices). Sounds like hardware problem.

It doesn't go further than that? Try removing the battery, unplug the adapter. Wait for a minute or so. Turn it back on.

It can be a Hard dirve Problem . . when you see the www.dell.com keep on tapping the F12 key on your keyboard which will give you boot Device menu so run the Hard Drive Diagnostics on the system which will give you a result code either pass or fail.

If you have not solved this issue yet what you can do is remove the battery, power and then the memory. Let it sit for the night then reboot into safe mode. Turn all start up activities off and change your virtual memory to 2 mb that is the minimum. Then reboot.

I actually found a way to stop it but it is a long process. What I did was I did the restore then I remove my power, battery, memory and hardrive let it sit over night to lose memory then restarted in safe mode and scanned with virus scanner and spyware software. OH YEAH! You have to make sure that you turn off all startup processes and set hard drive memory ( Virtual memory ) to the smallest you can.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem as Heml0ck.

My computer is an Inspiron 9400 and just after the dell-screen in the beginning comes a black screen with "PBR 2...Done" showing, and then nothing happens.

I ran the diagnostics on the disc and the "cannot boot the OS" in the symptom tree, and it passed on all points.
I find the boot menu (and BIOS setup), but how do I do to start my computer in safe mode? I don't see it anywhere.

I read that I should have the windows cd to do a restore, but problem is I live in Edinburgh now with no cd nearby (the computer is swedish).

Have you any idea how to proceed from here? Do I have to go back to Sweden to get a cd/leave my computer for repair or is there anything else I can try? I really need the computer in my work and I have important data on the disk! :smileysad:

Please help,
Michaela
