Enter Recovery Console (see this). At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt enter
cd system32 and click . At the C:\Windows\system32> prompt enter copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe and click . A message will indicate that one file has been copied. Reboot.

The same thing was happening to me and I tried what you suggested and it's still doing the same thing. I have two user accounts set-up and when I log into the administrator one it takes the password and I can see my desktop with no icons and then it goes back to the log in screen. This all happened after a windows update. There are no error messages, just won't let me log in. PLEASE HELP!!!

I also have same problem. The solution did not work. The recovery mode recognized my Windows XP OS. I changed the directory to c:\windows\system32 but it did not find the userinti.exe or the wsaupdater.exe files so it could not copy them. Are there are other suggestions?
I purchased another hard disk and loaded W XP OS. I will make my hard disk a slave to the new hard disk and try to remove SPS2 and see if the old disk will login properly to Windows. Has anyone tried this procedure?
