Lost Installation Media SBS 2003

Hi,

I have a Dell PowerEdge SC420 tower server, the hard drive was recently accidently erased, however, i am unable to locate the installation disks that came with it!

The COA label on the side of the machine says:

Win SBS Std 2003 1-2 CPU 5-CAL
DELL                                                                M3154
Product Key: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
00085-129-762-517
Outlook 2003
Product Key: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

X10-23558 (on the side of the label)

Obviously the 'xxxxx' is not the actual key!

Does anyone know where i can obtain official dell replacement disks for this operating system, I think it would be rather unfair if my only option was to pay for the whole package again (COA & Disks).

It would be appreciated if someone could help me out here!! (by the way, i am UK based).

Thanks in advance, Colin.

Check Dell FAQ in the Windows XP section.  There is one on replacement discs.

But, think about your statement that it would seem unfair to have to purchase them.  Was it's Dell's fault that you lost the discs?

I don't actually mind paying for replacement discs, what i do object to is buying the whole lot again, i.e. a new COA, the one i have is perfectly fine.

I don't understand that statement? You don't buy a COA. It comes with the software. A Certificate of Authenticity is simply a way of verifying that the software is not a pirated version.

And give me strength also.

Believe it or not, I DO understand your post. What you are asking for is a set of replacement disks which were originally supplied to you and which YOU have misplaced or lost.

Let me ask you a question. YOU buy a car, MISPLACE or LOSE the car (extreme example I know), and then you contact your car dealership and tell them that since you still have the vehicle registration number (for some reason you didn't lose that), it's only fair that they replace the vehicle for you.

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!

But in answer to your post:
1) I also have a COA on the side of my computer
2) I have NOT lost my installation disks
3) My installation disks are NOT generic - they are DELL specific
4) Yes - the costs of the actual media (CD's) are only a few cents
5) You would like to PURCHASE a set of replacement disks (yes - yours are lost)
6) You just want to purchase the disks (without software cost a few cents - see #4 above)
7) The disks should cost no more than ....etc.. - Yes - without software on the disks, see #4)
8) You have a valid license, so why should you have to purchase another one??? You don't. If you choose not to however, you won't have the software to go along with your "valid" license.
9) What would you do? ............probably (NO - DEFINITELY) make copies and then file the originals where I could place my hands on them if I needed them.

I too was taught English in school (I didn't realize there was American or Canadian - will have to ask my local school board about this)

Yes - you asked a simple question - AND you've been given a simple answer. You simply don't like the answer.

Give me strength!

Yes I am aware that you don't just buy a COA.

Here is the problem:

1. I have a COA on the side of my PC which is for SBS 2003.

2. I have lost my installation disks for SBS 2003.

3. The installation disks are generic for OEM SBS 2003 give or take the odd bit of bundled software that some OEM's include on the disks.

4. When purchasing Microsoft software, the bulk of the cost is for the key/COA provided not the actual disks.

5. I would like to purchase a replacement set of Dell SBS 2003 disks as mine are lost (see point 2).

6. I do not want to purchase the whole SBS 2003 kit again, (to clarify 'kit' I mean, disks, COA, printed EULA and box) which costs in the region of £300.00GBP ($600.00USD).  Just the disks are sufficiant.

7. The disks alone should cost no more than £30.00GBP ($60.00USD).

8. I have a valid licence, so why should I have to purchase another one?

9. £300.00GBP ($600.00USD) vs. £30.00GBP ($60.00USD) - what would you do?

I can only appologise for being English and writing in English, unfortunately, when i was in school, I was only taught English, not American or Canadian, I know it must be difficult as you guys invented English.......Not!

Yes, I can appreciate that some people are not going to like this post, however, I did ask a simple question in the first place, which has now been taken out of context by people that have not bothered to read it correctly and respond with a simple answer instead of going off on a tangent about software licencing, which incidentally, I am fully aware of.

For the people out there that have read and undertood it, thank you!

To Rebel9, just a little light hearted fun here....

You were taught American English at school! - realize (in your quote) is an Americanism, realise is true English!

As is Colour (UK) Color (US), there are also pronunciations that differ such as route, which is true English is pronounced 'root' and in US 'rout'.

Hi!

I have the same problem. DELL is not able to provide a new set of disks.

Did you have any luck obtaining replacement disks? If so, could you help me out?

Thanks in advance, Oyvind

Actually... NO!

American english and Canadian ARE not the same.  We are not American and we don't learn American history in our schools!    We are british colonialists and are in no way attached to the USA.  We are basically British.

Also I want those CD's and don't want to pay again.  DELL.. What a scam!

@rebel9 Terrible analogy and unrelated.  Your comments add no value and are definitely not appreciated!
