I assume you're talking about the Product Key, the 25-character code you enter when installing retail copies of XP.  The Product Key is on a Microsoft label on the side of the cabinet if a desktop, and on the bottom of the case if your system is a laptop.  Dell systems are preactivated, but you may be asked for the product key in certain situations.  See this:  http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/reinstal/reinstal.htm#1124187

If you are using the original Dell OEM disc, no product key is required. For any installation, by default the local Admin password is "null", that means leave it blank. Only good unless you changed it.
