lsass.exe - System Error

Hello I am currently trying to fix my brother's dell dimension desktop after receiving fatal error during the start-up. The following is the fatal error message:

lsass.exe - System Error
Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: The handle is invalid Error Status: 0xc0000008. Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into Safe Mode check the event log for more detailed information.

If there is a solution to get pass this it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Can you get into Windows via Safe Mode?

Did you follow the instructions and check out Event Viewer for more information? This will identify the problem better.
Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Admin Tools/Event Viewer/System
Look for a RED error, double click it and note down the "Source" and "Event ID"
Then go to the site below and enter that info in the boxes to find some causes.

Also lsass.exe lives here
C:\Windows\System32\LSASS.exe

Any other path is a worm such as W32.Nimos.Worm or virus.

I know this is an old post, but still hope that somebody can answer my questions.

I have the same error showing up.  I am unable to start in Safe Mode, as I get the same message.  I haven't had any luck with microsoft.com...it says to contact the computer or hard disk vendor.

Dell Technical Support suggests doing a CTL+ALT+DLT start.  Were you able to fix the computer, and if so, how did you do it?

Thanks in advance for your response.
