mail error message
When attempting to send/receive mail using outlook express, 9 times out of ten I get the following message which is accompanied with a failure to connect to MSN Messenger.
'Your server unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems or long periods of inactivity.Account ,pop.virgin.net, Server pop. virgin.net, Protocol POP3, Port 110, Secure(SSL):no. Error OX800CCCOF.However on the occassional connection to my mail server I get a successful connection to MSN Messenger.
This problem occurs whether Win XP Pro.firewall is enabled or disabled. There appears to be no problem with my server.

I suspected a virus and tried to launch my anti virus software and it just quits (AVG from Grisoft). I also have Norton and tried that and likewise it just quite immediately on start up. I don't have any other problems.
If someone can please help I'd be very grateful.

Thanks very much for the info - it helped me resolve the problem. The problem was with Norton Antivirus and because I'm pretty ambivalent about it I uninstalled it and bingo the problem was solved. My system is now protected by AVG 7.0 at grisoft.com and when I ran it there was worm/agobot which has now been isolated.
I hope this thread will make life easier for anyone else that has a similar problem.
Cheers,
Jon
