making the D drive the first to boot...
I read in another post, and got the link that takes me to the dell page that explains how to make the CD be the first to boot but, It did not have my 2400 dimension mentioned and it also had this note:
If you use a Microsoft® Windows NT®, Windows® 2000 or Windows XP operating system and the hard drive is formatted in NTFS, neither the Dell Dimension ResourceCD nor the boot disk will be able to read the contents of the hard drive. Which I do... so what now???

To enter BIOS (also called Setup) you should push either the F2 key or the key when the Dell logo screen appears. I am not familiar with the Dimension 2400 but most systems will display a message to that effect when the logo screen appears. Once you enter BIOS the steps to set your CD-ROM drive as the first boot device are the same for all Dimensions.
