McAfee won't complete installation on new computer

Question

I just got my Dimension E510 with xp pro sp2. The first thing I tried to install was Mcafee virus scan v8. After going through the install a reboot is required, but the system hangs up before it can finish shutting down. When I do a cold-boot, nothing works. Takes about 10 minutes to log in and then I can't even get to the control panel or explore. So, I did a system restore in safe mode.   I did this three times with the same result. Then I tried to install an older version of Mcafee virus scan (7.1). It did the same thing.   Can anyone help?  Thanks, Sea

Did you have any factory installed antivirus or any from your ISP that might be interferring ? Check your Add/Remove programs under Control Panel for any security programs that might already be installed.  That could be causing the problem.    Let me know if this helps   Andrea

YES!!!  Last night I found that Trend Micro PC-cillin was installed. I uninstalled it and was able to install McAfee without any problems. Thank you!  :smileyvery-happy: SeaStories
