ty u for your response, its windows xp mce version 2002 sp2 & im using dvd+r & it did work once, but i did notice that when its reads there it to much media files to write would u like to shorten the files to make it fit, i hit yes then thats when the problem happens.
also i downloaded the dvr- edit tool, it doesn't have a help menu, so how do i use it
MCE can only compress files so much, and I suspect your recordings are too big/long for it to handle. DVD+R can only hold 4.7 GB and I have found you have to get your recordings down to about 6 GB before MCE can compress them successfully. DVREdit is useful to cut out content (eg commercials) to help in this regard.

First item.
What software are you using (Name, version)?
Are you current with service packs and patches?
The brand of the DVD you are trying to burn, have you used that brand before and have you ever successfully burned to that brand in the past?

There is a short tutorial on how to use DVREdit here: http://wiki.dvbowners.com/index.php/DVREdit
