Media Player opens automatically on start up?
In the last couple of days when I start my computer, Windows Media Player automatically starts up. Does anyone know why it has started to do this and more importantly, how I can stop it? A novice at these things would appreciate any help!

A couple of ways to do this, look in the startup menu and delete it from there, type MSCONFIG from the Start/Run command and uncheck it from the startup tab, or go into the program itself and look under an options selection not to run at startup.
Question: Is anything running when the program starts? If so, you may have downloaded something unknowingly causing this to happen.

Open media player. Go to tools then option. If it's set to autolaunch uncheck it then restart your computer to see if it still pop ups.

Thanks jmwills for your reply. Tried yor suggestions but in the end did a system restore which seems to have done the trick. I tried the tools, options on the media player but there does not seem to be a lauch facility that you can switch on or off.
Anyway, thanks again.

Since your going to system resotore your pc. Why don't you try uninstalling media player instead of deleting everything for just this cause. Download it again from Microsoft maybe that will do the trick. I kept on restoring my system back then but got sick of restarting over and over again. So i decided that if the software don't work properly then uninstalling them and reinstalling would do the trick.

Thanks again for this further thought. The restore seems to have done the trick but I will keep your suggestion in mind if this sort of thing re-occurs.

I have the XP edition of windows and I have been to the tools and than options and there is not a way to stop it from starting up at the boot up. Now I have also investigated the problem of deleting it off my system but than I might mess up several other of my programs that use some of the things in the media player. Anyone who would have an answer to this problem will please email me as this is a very long list about this problems. I need a detail description on how to do this. thank you anyone who can help me with this most aggravating problem.

Thanks for your advice to check msconfig. The "ghost" media player no longer lingers in the wings at startup and then takes forever (slight exaggeration) and then graces the desktop with its presence. Thanks so much. Windows used to be easier to manipulate and microsoft and the computer manufactures used to send real books with their products. Nowadays, everything helpful is online or not at all.
Again, thanks so much
