Microsoft Networking login
I don't know how it happened, but something must have reset itself so that a window pops up whenever I boot up, asking for a Microsoft Networking password. I'm not on a network, and never have been. I know that I can make the window disappear by hitting "escape", but I would like to get rid of the window permanently. Can someone please tell me how?

Right click on Network Neighborhood and select Properties from the drop down box. Change the Primary Nework Logon to Windows Logon and reboot your computer. When it asks for a username and password, leave the password field blank and don't click on the Cancel button. The next time you start the computer you will not be asked for a password.

Volcano 11:
Thanks for the tip, but I got rid of that Network Neighborhood icon a long time ago, so there is nothing to click on. I'm not sure that I want to restore Network Neighborhood. Is there another way?

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network (It's been a long time since I used 98, but I think this will get you to the same place.)
