Not sure I understand your post. Standard USB2 drivers are built into XP SP2. You shouldn't have to install them separately. Are you talking about drivers for a printer or some other USB device? A USB1 device will work when connected to a USB2 port on the PC but only at USB1 speed. You can always go into Device Manager and uninstall the wrong driver and then install the correct one.

Always helps to include model of PC you have too.

One more thought, did you install the chipset driver and then all the other drivers (video, audio, network, modem, etc) after reinstalling XP on your PC? If not, USB will probably not be working properly.

Not sure if you’re referring to the Enhanced USB Controller usbehci.sys miniport driver that supports hi-speed USB 2.0 devices, either way it doesn’t really matter since I tend to agree with RoHe advice, WXP SP2 should include all & hot fixes since WXP SP1 release.

For example, WXP SP1 USB drivers update download link click here indicates Hotfix KB822603, though driver date indicates 3rd July 2003 the version is 5.1.2600.1243 whereas WXP SP2 USB drivers are higher version release 5.1.2600.2180. Also if you go to Registry HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix you should note they are ALL higher numbered than KB822603.

You didn't say if you installed the chipset driver on your system after you reinstalled XP:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R58201&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8300&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3268&devlib=0&typecnt=1&vercnt=1&formatcnt=1&libid=27&fileid=70069

Without the chipset driver, USB2 may not be available regardless of what language driver you installed. And I don't think the language makes any difference anyway.

Download and install the chipset and reboot. If that doesn't solve the problem, disconnect all USB devices, except mouse and keyboard. Then open Device Manager and expand list under USB. Right-click each item listed under USB and select Uninstall. When you've deleted USB entries, reboot. XP should reinstall all the correct USB drivers.

U bent welkom!

Not sure where you downloaded the USB2.0_Drivers_for_WinXP from?

When testing USB 2.0 compliant devices, use the USB Root Hub ports, (they are the ports you mentioned located on the rear & front panels).

If not already done, you should investigate USB problems by opening the following path: Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager > USB Controllers Here you can view USB information to see if there are any device conflicts or to update drivers etc.. It will let you gather relevant information that may assist in seeking help with your problem.

For example, is there a USB Host Controller that includes the word Enhanced? If there is, then your PC has a USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed) Controller. Right click on this controller, select Properties, click Driver tab, click  Driver Details button, there should be 5 off WXP SP2 drivers all version 5.1.2600. They are: usbehci.sys & hccoin.dll (associated with USB 2.0) & usbhub.sys, usbport.sys, usbui.dll (common/shared USB Controller drivers).

I have a Dimension 8300 with XP SP2. Others are correct, no additional USB drivers are needed, my USB ports work fine as USB2. But you must install the chipset drivers from Dell, or if you prefer from Intel: download from here (first item on the list for the latest version, or item 3 for the previous version; no real difference for the Dimension 8300, the latest version includes support for later models of chipsets):

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=816&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21

Ideally, these drivers should have been installed immediately after installing XP, but I think it will be OK if you already installed other device drivers.

These drivers are language independent, no special Dutch version.
