If you have the software in CD form that has MS Word on it, just go to add/remove programs and remove that program. Reinstall the program with Word on it.

My advise and way of removing and installing software is to do it in Normal mode, and do it on a clean P.C. Close all open windows, and shut down any programs that may be running.

I tried downloading the Windows Installer utility. It kept sending me error messages, so I'm not sure it installed successfully. Then I tried reinstalling Word. But I've still got the same problem. I'm installing from the original CD. It goes through all the steps and says installation is complete, but I still can't open Word. Any other ideas?

Still searching for help with my Microsoft Word woes. I'm running Windows XP on a Dimension 4300. When I try to open Word, I get a message telling me "This application must be installed to run. Please run Setup from the location where you orignally installed the application."
To review what I've tried so far:
-- I tried removing Word and reinstalling from the original CD. That didn't help.
-- I tried removing it and dowloading a reinstall from support.microsoft.com/kb/290301. No luck there either.
-- I tried downloading the Windows Installer utility. It didn't work either.
-- I can't do a system restore because System Restore was turned off (due to a virus problem) and not turned back on again (my mistake).
Any suggestions on what else I might try? Could it be that I need to reinstall not just Word but also Microsoft Works (or are they different programs?) There's also a program called Works 01 Setup Launcher and Works Suite Add-In for Microsoft Word. Should I try removing all of those?
