Missing 'Driver reset.exe'

Hi

I am running Win XP Pro (SP3) on a Dell 8400 Dimension.

I discovered by chance that my Dell 'Driver reset.exe' (Driver reset tool) is missing. I know it was there a while back, but it is gone now. (This is the option which allows 'roll-back' of the latest driver, in case of problems.)

When I go to Dell site to download and re-install the tool, I was asked to download DellDriverDownloadManager.application. I did this.

Howerer, when I try and install it (the Download manager), I am asked to  install MS .NET (v3.5) first.  I am reluctant to do this, as I recently purged my PC of all .NET (1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 ...)

My question is - Do I need .NET in order to install the DellDriver Manager, or to install the Driver Reset tool?

The real question is - Is there any way I can re-install the Driver Reset Tool, WITHOUT installing .NET first.

Thanks for any pointers

You will need to reinstall the .net programs. And it is not a good idea to remove the other versions as certain programs rely on them.

Davet50, thanks for the response. However, I am correct in thinking that .NET does not come pre-installed with XP? Therefore, the  Driver Reset tool (which was there at the start) did not need it to begin with?

As for 'certain programs rely on them [.NET versions]" , I have discovered a number of 3d party apps since which required them, and have duly replaced them with ones which do not rely on .NET.

I cannot believe that a basic function such as 'driver reset.exe' would depend on an _optional_ framework as .NET.

There are others that do also. Ati graphics controll requires it. some printer drivers and software also require it . Bottom line is if the writer of the program requires it then it is necessary.

There is no documented harm in having .net installs on a system.
