missing icons and toolbar

Question

Hi everyone, I am having a problem with my dell laptop. It starts up perfectly, but when it comes to my desktop I am missing my icons and my toolbar. I've tried somethings, but I am really not sure how to fix the problem. Does anyone know what might be wrong with it? My programs run perfectly and I can still access them from my task manager, but still no icons or toolbar. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot and have a great night!

Hi,

I think the first thing to do is check for virus/other malware

If you can get IE to work run these online scans.
Let them fix anything they find, but take a note of the names of the nasties in case they are needed later
