Missing operating system message -Dell Dimension 9200

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help?

My pc has been fine lately. I used it last night with no problems. However I have just arrived in from work, gone to start up and it won't. It's stuck at a "missing operating system" message.

Really upset by this. Any help appreciated.

Hi Bill.

When you say vista dvd, is that the operating system black disc that came with mine. It says on mine it's only for reinstall.

When I put it in the first thing I see is a black screen with "windows is loading files" and then a blue screen asking for my region etc. I don't want to completely install it over again do i?

Sorry for sounding dumb I just want to double check befoe I press the wrong button!

Press F8 at the Dell Screen, on the options, slect Repair your ocmputer, you may see some options. Click on the option Startup Repair, when finish restart the system, If it works, go and update the driver version for your BIOS.

Dimension 9200 / XPS 410 is the same one, isn't it?

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

However F8 doesn't do anything on my pc. I have options for F2 Setup and F12 boot setup but those menus do not have those options you mentioned.

I'm pulling my hair out here. There's not much left anyway to be honest. lol

Ok Bill. I found repair in the end and it now gets past the boot stage and gets the windows vista password area.

I enter my password which it obviously accepts but then it comes up with a slui.exe , application failed to start message.

What now? :smileysad:
