missing or corrupt file??????????

Hi,   Please can anyone help me??   I got an error warning which read:   stop: c0000218 {registry file failure} The registry cannot load the hiv (file)  etc.   So i used the 'how to recover from a corrupted registry...' info from microsoft, however i got a problem when i got to the end of part one, when i restarted the computer it said:   windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup cd-rom.   Does anyone know how i can do this? I have very basic computer knowledge!!!!   Thanks MJ
