Missing or Corrupt \system32\hal.dll
My Dell Desktop just start with a issue saying Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll (Please re-install a copy of the above file)
I am not sure what to do. I have to disks to even find the file on. Any help detailed step by step instructions would be very much helpful.

Thanks for your expert guidance. I now have another issue that I have before this one. I am getting a Run DLL error:
Error Loading C:\Windows\Hweruvijuk.dat (Saying the specified module could not be found.
What is the best way to fix that error?

David45,
Some risk but I haven't had problems losing files and folders on a Dell computer. Doing the repair will put the Operating System ONLY back to factory. That is why you need to get the Windows Updates, again.
I cannot find the Hweruvijuk.dat on Google. It may be some type of malware. Try downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, update it and do a quick scan. Let me know if it finds anything.

Bell Boy,
The Recovery Console procedure worked for me on the same "corrupt or missing hal.dll file" issue. I did the whole bootcfg /rebuild steps and the OS booted beautifully. However, when I power down and restart, the same problem occurs "corrupt/missing hal.dll". Do I need to copy another hal.dll file to my \system32 directory? My installation DVD has an older version but in the form hal.dl_? What am I missing here?
Thanks.

I am having the same problem and ordered my disk but when I install them nothing happens, I just get the same error message. What am I doing wrong?
