Missing power features after reinstalling Windows XP

After replacing a faulty hard drive, successfully, and reinstalling windows XP from the CD's that came with my computer I have found that several windows features that were on my Dimension 8200 originally do not appear now.  Specifically, under the power management section of the control panel, there is no longer the option to allow the computer to switch to standby or hibernate modes.  I would very much like to get some help accessing these features.  (Does Dell install a slightly different version of Windows on the machine orignially (mine bought a year and a half ago) than comes on the reinstallation disks?)

Thanks.

When you reinstalled Windows, did you install the chipset drivers?  If you look in Device Manager, are there any problem devices listed?

Steve--

Sorry.  I don't know the term "chipset driver" and it wasn't listed in any of the support pages in my computer.  I checked out the device manager and there seemed to be no immediate problems (though I only checked the properties of those things that seemed hard drive related).  Any specific suggestions or recommedation of anywhere online that would address these issues would be great.

Thanks for responding

efbaxter,

The drivers for the 850 and 850E chipsets (which the Dimension 8200 uses) are native to Windows XP and were installed when you reinstall the operating system. I could not find any reference for troubleshooting Advanced Power Management (APM) on XP systems. It is probably little comfort to know that both standby and hibernate modes are notoriously unreliable on desktop systems.
