Have you disabled Task Scheduler service? Doing so will remove the Prefetch folder. Check by going to Start|Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Component Services|Services (Local). Right-click Task Scheduler and select Properties. The service should be started and the Startup type on the properties dialog should be "Automatic."

Hi:

Thanks for your tip, and yes, I did turn off the task scheduler after visiting a recommended site by MS for Windows XP services, which suggested Task Scheduler is not really necessary.

I have seen those familiar files (although I don't know what are they) back to the folder after Task Scheduler service is being turned on.
