missing right click menu

When I right click on an empty space on my desktop, nothing happens. Before, when I right clicked, I would get a menu box with several choices, refresh, arrange icons, properties, etc. Now I don't even get the box. Where the heck did it go and how do I get it back? Any ideas?

Thanks

Is it just your desktop that the right click won't work, or does this happen everywhere?  If it is everywhere then it could be the mouse itself that has a problem.  Check to see if it is securely plugged into the pc all the way.

Maybe this will help:

use regedit to check the registry:
click start, run, type regedit, click OK. In the regedit window that opens, click on the +s in the left pane to navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

in the right pane see if there is a value called NoViewContextMenu; if there is check that its data is 0; if it is 1, right click on it, click modify, delete the 1 and type 0, click OK. If NoViewContextMenu is not there, then that is not the cause of your problem (the default value is 0).

Repeat for the other registry key.

Thanks People, I'll start snooping around. At least now I have a place to start.

Hi,

Seems strange, I know, but I have known this to fix that problem

Right click task bar, properties, click start menu, customize, advanced, the scroll to
"enable drag and drop" and "run command" on the advanced properties menu for the start menu.
Make sure they are both checked.
