missing system file
I'm getting an error message on boot up that the system cannot find C:\WINDOWS\BXXS5.DLL. I haven't been able to find it on my hard drive or on the Dell or Windows98 CD-Roms. Can I download this file from somewhere?

Have you tried looking in the .CAB files? On the CD they may be in a folder such as win98 and contain the compressed Windows files. You will need a view utility (CabView) which you can get as part of the power toys. This is the link for W95 - the utility should work for 98.

One problem is that if the file is missing, why?!

You should Google BXXS5.DLL bofore you spend too much time on this, it could be that you do not want it.

Thanks Starman99
It's missing because it turned up in a list of suspect files after a virus scan or a spyware scan, and I deleted it.
I will try your suggestion about CAB files.

BXXS5.DLL is installed by spyware. See the following:

See the following message to help you get rid of all spyware and other internet parasites:

Thanks a million guys. I have downloaded the instructions about removing booked space. As soon as I have some time to play with it, I'll follow them and get rid of it.
Thanks again
