missing Win32 application

I am trying to run iTunes software but after the download, which is successful, this warning comes up.  It says it is not a valid Win32 application.  What do I need to do?  Is this something I can download?  My daughter got an iPod nano for Christmas and is about to die because she can't download any songs.  We are running on dial-up.

Silly questions but
(i) if you are downloading from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ did you choose the Windows version and not the Mac version?
(ii) is your computer running Windows 2000 or XP, if it's not, iTunes won't run.

Assuming you have Win 2000 or XP and downloaded the Windows version rather than the Mac version, go to this link to download and then run the little 16-bit fix utility. Then see if you can run the iTunes software.
