If you don't have the Windows 98 CD and don't wish to purchase a replacement your options are to give the system to your co-worker as is and let him/her deal with it or dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner.
I formatted my hard drive and tried to reinstall my 98 OS but when it came to entering the product key number, my Product ID card number (5digit OEM 7digit-5digit) does not match the 25-digit space configuration on the screen. How do I get a valid number. This OS disk is the one that came with the machine direct from Dell.
The 25-character Product ID should be on a label on a small booklet introducing Windows 98. If not, contact Dell tech support and they can provide you with a generic Product ID after you confirm ownership of a Dell copy of Win98.
