Missing Windows installation disks

I bought an Inspiron 6000 on eBay about 6 months ago, which was supplied without any software CDs.  It has developed a problem with Add/Remove programs, which lists installed software but, for most of the installed programs, the 'Add/Remove' button has disappeared.  So, I want to try re-installing XP Pro SP2 on the machine but cannot because I don't have the installation CD.

How do I obtain a copy of Windows, which I assume is genuine and was installed by Dell in the first place?

I have tried to contact the eBay seller, currently without any response, but I haven't tried contacting Microsoft yet - that's my last resort!

Thanks for your help ...

Did the seller transfer the ownership of the system to you ? Do you know if there is any warranty left on the system ? You should be able to give Dell a call and see if they will send you the missing CD's. Note that you absolutely have to have the Microsoft Windows COA label on the system. If not then you will have to buy a retail version. Also you will need the drivers to reinstall Windows.

Dell will not give you a OS CD without having transfered the ownership.  Get the OEM version of windows from www.newegg.com which is cheaper than retail.  Its good for one system only and no Microsoft support.

Good luck

Here it is at newegg for $90.00.
