modify autoexec.bat for window xp?

Question

I was instructed by technical support at Mcafee.com to modify my autoexec.bat file because of problems running their antivrus software. I am unable to modify this file with cmd.exe from the run menu. Can anyone offer assistance to modify the autoexec.bat file? I get the following error message: c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications

Windows xp does not use the autoexec.bat. Skip McAfee products and use another brand.

You can open AUTOEXEC.BAT in Notepad, make any necessary changes and then save the modified file. In Windows XP at logon, the system does not actually execute Autoexec.bat; it merely scans it for environment variables initialized with Set statements.

thanks for the suggestion but its paid for. maybe i'll try symantec when my subscription runs out. i think i found a fix.

You can return it within 30 days if you call Customer Service & get a RMA. I have wasted 30+ hours, talked with customer service, technical support and 'Escalation Support' and still cannot get McAfee Internet Security 7 to work. I uninstalled it--several times, and finally installed EZArmor that's free from my Road Runner ISP. EZArmor is working smoothly, without any hassles. I have Norton on 2 other computers and never had the problems that I had with McAfee. Tech support supervisors have called me from India and still cannot get it to acknowledge that I don't still have the 'trial edition' any more. I've kept a list of the 12 diff support people I've talked to at McAfee--some good that came close to solving--some very bad that almost caused a computer meltdown. TG for Restore. Life's too short to have to deal with bad software.
