mouse pointer screen postion problem vista

Just got a new Dell Inspiron 531 PC runing Vista Home Premium and on the whole I am satisfied with the set up apart from one small problem.
The mouse pointer on screen (the pointy finger /hand) does not work when directly over the item I want to click on, it needs to be a few mm below the item, ,trivial I know but when there is a list of choices it is easy to click on the wrong one.
Anyone out there any ideas for a quick fix? the screen is a Hanspree 19" widescreen (if that makes any difference)
                                                                   Thanks, Neil

If you have specific software that came with the mouse (such as Logitech for example), uninstall and reinstall. If this is simply a generic mouse, uninstall it in Device Manager, reboot and let Windows reinstall the appropriate drivers.

Hi neilawalker. I have the exact same problem. Have you tried Rebel9's suggestion. Does it work? Thanks.

many had this problem with vista and the ati video card on the 420. I believe updating to the most recent ati drivers solved the issue. Try searching under the xps desktops to see if I remember the solution properly...
