Moving a document into a folder

System: Windows XP plus SP2. In a particular folder, in addition to subfolders, there may be documents by themselves. Sometimes I desire to move one into one of the subfolders. When I click on it, hold down the click, and move it to the destination subfolder, a small icon appears, a circle with a slash through it, that seems to be "No!" The document will not move. How may I accomplish this goal?

Into what folder are you tying to move the document and what kind of document is it?

An example:
In the folder "My Documents," there is a subfolder on "My Garden," in which there is a Word Document on "Deer Resistant Plants." I wanted to change this to a different subfolder. Clicked on it, and while holding click down, moved folder to the subfolder I preferred. It moves, but when it is over the preferred subfolder, even though both are highlighted together, it just won't go. I get the barrier sign mentioned in my original post.
In other examples, I want to move within the subfolder, or perhaps a sub-subfolder. Same response. Any comments would be appreciated.

Check the Permissions on the Folder you are moving it to.  That would be the only thing that could block you.
