First, Denny is no longer with us he passed away about two years ago.

The easiest way is to do the reinstallation with the new hard drive.  Then connect the old drive as the second hard drive in the PC and you can then transfer over whatever user data you want.  You can't move programs as they must be installed but you can copy user data to the new drive.

After you get everything over, you can leave the old drive installed, reformat it and then use it for backups.  I have two hard drives installed in my PC, and use the 2nd drive for my Acronis True Image full disk backups.

So sorry to hear of Denny's passing--thanks for letting me know. I admit I have not been here as much as of late, in part because of members such as you and Denny, who've always been very helpful--I have learnd to avoid a lot issues before they can become problems.

And thanks for confirming what I suspected: I agree that installing the drive in the system will be the best way to go.
