MS Security Bulletin July Summary e-mail

Double Check Windows XP auto Update site info!
(aka: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp)

While reviewing the information contained in ths MS July
Security Bulletin Summary e-mail, I discovered that the
recently released batch of Windows critical/security
downloads via the Update site may have an error.

In the "Update site" listing (scan of my PC) for Critical
Updates, 2 of the listed updates appear to be pointing to
the same fix --even though the KB numbers are listed
differently.  If you click on the "read more" link  both
the KB840315 and the KB839645 point to patch 04-023.
KB840315 indeed relates to 04-023    BUT,
   KB839645 should reference 04-024   (per the e-mail &
    based on a MS-KB search for 839645)

Not sure what the auto update would actually download; or
if the "read more" link is the only error.

Anyone have any ideas?  Perhaps best to wait for a few
days to see if MS corrects the pointer problems.

That's interesting.

I just downloaded something like five critical updates and had no problems afterwards.

Maybe someone with more expertise than I can answer.

I too installed them from the auto-update site. The registry (and Belarc) picks them up as 2 distinct updates however they do appear related. Maybe a file wasn't ready for primetime.

Not a problem. I successfully downloaded all five of  the files earlier today, but as noted here in the forum only four seem linked to Windows XP Pro. But please try and make it a habit it download all the latest updates from the Microsoft site.  Good Luck.
